One of the main drawcards of harajuku is the parade of freaks that
can often be seen. We expected a lot and were disappointed as only a
few goths were about, but that didnt stop Krysy from making the most of
it.
The entrance to Yoyogi park is marked with these huge pillars. Thick
foliage on one side and the hustle and bustle of central Tokyo on the other.
Once in the park, we paid our 500Yen and went into the iris garden. Now
Im no flower expert, in fact, I dont even know what an iris looks like,
but there was certainly some beautiful scenery within the garden.
Ooohhhhhhhh.........how cute!! :P
Would you believe that in the middle of a humid rainforest like garden,
some genius decided to put a bug zapper to kill insects. Now Im sure
mine arent the only legs that feel the zapper aint doing a damn thing
to the mosquito population of the garden!!
Plus, its a humid, muggy garden....thats where mozzies and bugs are
supposed to be! Leave em alone I say!!
In the shrine in the park, we found a tree with many small wooden plaques hung around
it. A sign next to the tree read, "Ema, Votive tablet for special personal
prayers and gratitude toward the deities enshrined in Meiji Jingu Shrine
are offered to you for 500Yen a piece. Hung around this divine tree with
your wishes written on the reverse side, the Ema are offered at Mikesai,
the morning ceremony held every day, and your supplications are conveyed
by the priests." Now the guy who wrote the above wish may have been a
little off but that didnt stop me from writing one of my own.
I pondered for a while as if I had 1 wish from a genie but finally
came up with something.....albeit the most unoriginal wish possible.
My wish now hangs amongst the hundreds of other wishes left by both
tourists and frequenters of the shrine.
